Happy Chinese New Year to the rest!
@2 years agoEver since I was a little girl, it was always sort of awkward for me to go and eat at Chinese restaurants with my family. I got used to it over time, but sometimes I still have that feeling of not fitting in.
Some of you might be asking, “Why?” Well, because I’m half Chinese and half African-American. I’ve grown up only with the Chinese side of my family though and look slightly more Black than I do Asian.
Today I went to lunch with my grandparents. My grandparents always become really good friends with the owners by giving them fish, lemons, and flowers from our backyard. When I eat with them and the owners haven’t met me yet, they ask about me. My grandpa explains to them (in Chinese) who I am and what I do…blah blah blah. And then the lady or man chippers up and starts asking more questions…in Chinese. So every single time, I have to sit there smiling awkwardly because I really have no idea what they are talking about. All I know is that I’m the subject of their conversation.
At least today the lady gave me a cool bracelet. haha.

My roommate found an article about college admissions and accepting mixed raced students. The number of mixed race children are increasing. I personally think that’s pretty awesome. (well, since I am one =D)

You have to wait to see the magic on the other side.
April 23, 2012
Once a day, I shake this. Then once the first fortune stick hits the floor and I see the number on it, I read the fortune in my little book. My mom is to thank for this gift.
Today:
As a bird seeks shelter in the forest, you will encounter hardship and troubles at first, but all your troubles will eventually be over. Do not seek revenge on people who have hurt you, nor should you attempt false reconciliations; simply live and let live. Be cautious about your personal safety, as there is a chance of an accident. Existing relationships will grow stronger, but few new ones are likely to be formed soon. Your work will go well, and you may be offered a promotion.Troubles have come upon you. Perhaps you have overstretched yourself or have been unlucky. Your ordinary, settled way of life has been turned upside down. Don’t pretend this is not happening. It is. What you need to do is learn from this. Go deep within yourself, go deep within your own faith, and find at the centre of your own dark forest the strength to recover, to learn, and to start again. It is there.
Sounds accurate.
I hope these come true. #chinese #fortune (Taken with Instagram)

Um…okay….

Monday will be the second year in a row I’m not spending it with my family or eating delicious Chinese food made by my grandma for the New Year’s dinner.
Makes me a little sad. My family sent me some cherry blossoms though :) Last year they sent me some left over food too…I’m hoping that happens again.
