This morning I was woken up by the vibrating of my phone on my desk. It was Sam wishing me a good morning and a Happy 20 months, so I didn’t mind at all. It was almost ten in the morning anyway. I hate sleeping super later because I feel like I’m wasting the hours of a day. 10/10:30 is usually my limit unless I’m beat tired.
Anyway, the rest of my day shall consist of studying for my upcoming midterms, playing with the pep band for a bit at the 12-hour Dance Marathon, a fundraiser for LA’s Children’s Hospital, then more studying, more convos with Sam, and then I will return to the Dance Marathon for fun to watch my friend’s band, The Beat Advocate, perform. Might as well go dance it up as well. Might even donate money to the cause and receive a t-shirt.
The Trojan Dance Marathon was a much needed event. Sure, I could have stayed in, studied for my midterms and been productive, but no. I went out and had fun. A blast really!
My friend Chris went with me to that wonderful event. I initially planned on only staying for like an hour or two, especially to see my friends’ band, The Beat Advocate, to perform. We ended up staying for like four hours. Man, we’ll be feeling the pain in our legs in the morning. haha.
There were some cool DJs, especially the last one we saw. We were going crazy. haha. It was great to finally get to a dance party. At one point it was kinda awkward because while we were doing our thing, some people from band found us. Some awkward, we only know how to fist pump, pelvic thrust and party boy, people. We eventually got away.
Another great part about the whole event was that it was for a great cause. All the money was being donated to LA’s Children’s Hospital. Some of the young survivors were there to speak, and one even sang! She was so great, like a future Broadway star. (she so happens to already have two albums out as well…and she’s like in middle school or younger haha). In between dancing, they shared touching stories and really raised awareness. Felt like crying at some points. It’s 2am, they still have an hour left of the event. Too bad they didn’t do it twice or more a year. I would go. haha. I love the shirt I bought as well.
Is it tomorrow yet? My friend Marc and I are going to a hip-hop workshop on campus tomorrow. The guy teaching it is from Quest Crew (they were on ABDC).
At first I was hesitant, but then I told myself to stop being such a chicken. I’m tired of not doing things because I’m afraid of messing up. That’s the perfectionist in me and it’s held me back long enough.
It’ll be my first hip-hop class. Not sure what to expect…lol. We don’t care how amateur and silly we may look. Time to get our swag on.
I dedicate this to Chris Rod. We need to incorporate the Cat Daddy, the Dougie and everything else we’ve talked about to some sort of flute dance routine.
Donate money to the Children’s Hospital and buy shirt. check. Decide on how to customize it. check. Carefully cut shirt and hope to not eff it up. check. Proudly wear USC’s Trojan Dance Marathon shirt. check. (ps. I love how it has the 26th on it. Double meaning=D)
I love Fridays. Sometimes I’ll have two classes, but usually only one and it’s only 50 minutes long. It’s almost like I get a three-day weekend.
Tonight shall be fun if things go accordingly. Going to the Popular Music Program Showcase again to support some of my friends then it’s off to Techno Tommy for some DJs and dancing. Excited :) Time to throw on some neon or something. Technically I already am, but I might change later.
At the moment, I should get productive and do some work. That would probably be a good idea. lol.
My night of music began with the Popular Music Program’s Showcase (aka their performance midterm). I had a few friends performing: Justin, Barry, Annie, AJ and a couple more I sort of know. It was rock night so that was fun. Funk was a bit higher on the fun scale just because, well, it’s funk, duh. Highlight of the showcase? Annie rapping. Who knew she was such an OG? lol
Next, was Techno Tommy-Part 2. I was pretty stoked for it because 1) I love to dance and 2) I heard the DJs were awesome. Before I got there though, my friend Marc texted me saying it was a bust and no one was really there. I figured I would go meet him there anyway to check it out.
He was right. There were people at the bar, playing pool and sitting at tables, but only two people (a couple) dancing. Deciding to get the party started, Marc, his roommate, roommate’s girlfriend, Sofya and I started dancing. The coordinators (at least we think that’s who they were) of the event looked so happy and started dancing too. He thanked me for getting my friend to dance and said we were awesome. lol. After that, other people started dancing and more groups came in.
Although it wasn’t super packed like I thought it was going to be, I had a lot of fun. The DJs were really awesome and dancing of course was fun. I was wearing a beanie so my hair looked all crazy afterward (dammit black hair always curling and getting poufy lol)
At some point this guy came up to me and said “My friend over there really wants to dance with you” and I was like “No thanks” *insert polite smile here* After the guy left, my friend Marc said “I think those were the guys that tried to dance with those girls over there.” I guess they were on the prowl…but shot down every time. Yeah, the only guys I’ll dance with is a male friend from a distance, my gay guy friends, and my boyfriend.
Now, I’m back in my room slightly sore. It’s always nice to be the life of the party.
