and truth is, I’m afraid of being a nobody again…

I have GC to thank for helping me realize what I wanted to do with my life. I have it to thank for all the great friends I made and opportunities I have been fortunate enough to come across.
It starts today, but now I’m too old. One of my friends is going. I always felt like GC was what made me stand out from everyone in my hometown. It made me special. Now I feel like that won’t be the case anymore.
I feel like I have to find other ways to stand out now. I need to push myself harder to make it into the music industry. I have some huge dreams. Right now I’m in the early stages of figuring everything out.
All in all, even though I’m really sad I can’t go to camp, I know I need to move on and accomplish things for myself. I know my GC family will always have my back.

I learned that concept in one of my journalism classes last year. I felt pretty great about myself at that point because I’ve been “Googleable” since my sophomore year in high school. It started with all my Grammy Camp blog posts, moved onto Daily Trojan articles, progressed with my AOL Music article for my Paramore interview and various other things (facebook, twitter, scholarship press releases and now my clothing line).
At first I was iffy about having so much of myself on the internet. It was creepy actually. Now I’m just like “YEAH!” I just looked myself up (man, that sounds so conceited…but that’s what published journalist like to do to see how many people are reading their stuff), and I am listed in some form or another at least through the 10th page.
It’s a great feeling. If you’re a journalist or just blog for fun, search your name! Maybe you’re at the top of Google’s search listings too!

It was nice to have a quick visit with my friend Keith today. He’s been going all over the place, touring with a girl that was on American Idol. Nice to hear about the work he’s doing as a keyboardist.
Once a GRAMMY Camp family, always a GRAMMY Camp family.

This is the time of year when I miss late nights in a room typing away with others to get a story or script done. This is the time of year when I miss laying on the floor of the old USC music rooms, exhausted, yet happy. This is the time of year when I miss finding someone sleeping under a piano to catch a few minutes of peace. This is the time of year when I miss being scared of interviewing someone like Adam Levine or a producer. This is the time of year when I miss late night rehearsals and interviews with passionate music industry potentials.
This is the time of year I miss my GRAMMY family the most. I’m fortunate enough to go to college with many of them, but the rest are so spread out across the country. I spent three glorious summers at GC.
GC gave me the direction I needed. I owe it to that family.
